Absences

Parents are responsible for the regular school attendance of their children. If students are absent from school due to health or family reasons, they must inform the teachers via Escola Parent App.

Basic principles:

  • Every effort should be made to arrange medical appointments outside school hours.
  • A doctor’s certificate must be presented in the case of injuries preventing normal school attendance (e.g. at sports lessons) for a lengthy period of time.

Joker days

Each school year, two joker days are available to every student. Joker days may be taken individually or en bloc. School half-days count as a complete Joker Day. A joker day may not be divided into two half days. The following periods of notice apply when taking joker days:

a) Always inform the class teacher eight days in advance
b) Where they are taken at the end of holidays, inform the class teacher before the holiday begins

Joker days can be entered in the student diary and must be signed off by parents/guardians. No reason need be given. Students must catch up on the work they have missed. At the start of each semester, the school leadership team announces the closing dates by which joker days must have been taken.

In principle, joker days may not be taken:

  • immediately before or after the summer holidays
  • on days when the class or section of the school is carrying out a project, sports activity or visit
  • during school trips or class camps

The dates of these can be found in the school calendar.

Unused joker days expire and cannot be carried over to the next school year. Requests for dispensation to take additional days and/or half-days to be used in a similar way to Joker Days will not be approved.
