Sports day

On sports day, the focus is on sporting contests and games in which students from all year groups compete with plenty of fun and enthusiasm.
In spite of the competitive element, the Langacker sports hall is filled with an atmosphere of cheerful camaraderie.

Team sports day

Basketball, football, floorball, volleyball – on team sports day, all kinds of different sports taught during PE lessons are played in class-specific teams.
With games taking place both indoors and out, the students cheer on their classmates as they strive to achieve top sports results in their individual and class rankings.

Games day

Every year, GSEH joins forces with the local nursery and primary school to run a games day. Throughout the morning, the children have the chance to visit various places around the school premises in mixed age groups, with the oldest students acting as group leaders. The aim of this is to enable the group members to get to know one another and have fun. The children can win points at each place they go to, with the ultimate winners crowned at the end. This event places emphasis on cooperation between the various school levels.

Class camp

In September, shortly after the school year’s start, students in the level 2 and 3 classes spend a week away on a residential trip. They might go on a cycling tour in western Switzerland, or go and explore the Ticino region or another part of the country. In addition to cultural activities, the focus is on fun and games – for example climbing and swinging at a high-wire park, orienteering round a city or holding competitions out on the wide Swiss meadows. During this week, we get to know and appreciate one another better and experience school life in a completely different way. Parents are asked to contribute CHF 22.00 per day towards the costs of these trips. The remaining amount is covered by the school communities.

School trip for new starters

In just their third week at school, our new students in the level 1 classes go on a two-day school trip. The students and teachers get to know each other better during activities such as city-based orienteering challenges, leisurely autumnal walks or adventurous canoeing or cycling trips.
The last few trips for new starters have been to Schaffhausen, Kreuzlingen, Davos and Romanshorn.

Special weeks

Project weeks allow the school to break away from its usual methods of teaching and spend a week running school activities in a completely different way. Whether it is a theatre project, a week devoted to art or sport or simply a week focusing on a specific theme, students from the various classes are organised into mixed groups and given a task to complete by the end of the week, usually in workshops. Recently project weeks have been based on themes such as Brazil/the football World Cup, water, theatre and musicals, sustainability and resources.

Valbella winter sports camp

Every year, GSEH organises a winter sports camp at the Erlebacherhus centre in the Valbella/Lenzerheide ski resort.
Traditionally, this involves around 30 to 40 students spending a week taking part in winter sports together, under the guidance of experienced winter sports instructors.
In the evenings we all meet up for workshops and games. Students also have the option of taking part in exam preparation or a catch-up course led by a teacher of GSEH. This involves attending lessons in the mornings and enjoying winter sports activities in the afternoons.
