School medical service
In accordance with cantonal regulations, children in the second school year undergo a health check. Parents can choose whether their child is examined by an independent medical specialist or by the school doctor. The school office informs parents of this every October. The examination must be carried out by the following April.

School dental service
In accordance with cantonal regulations, dental check-ups are carried out on a yearly basis. Parents are given a voucher for this, which they can redeem at a dental surgery of their choice.
Hair hygiene
Our hair hygiene expert Ms Martina Rupprecht carries out mass screenings as soon as children or their siblings are found to have lice/nits. For information, please see the information sheet on our homepage.
Information sheet
Anyone can get head lice. Infestations of head lice are very common and have nothing to do with poor hygiene. Even washing your hair daily does not protect you against them. These irritating parasites never leave a person’s head voluntarily.
Identifying head lice
Since lice are very small, mobile and prefer to avoid light, they are rarely seen (they hide in the hair). However, their eggs (known as “nits”) are easily recognisable. They are a whitish colour, about a millimetre long and cling very firmly to hair.
Transmission channels
- From person to person
- Shared combs, brushes, hats, helmets, etc.
- Play areas (nits are very sticky and easily cling to fabric)
- Sofas, chair backs, headrests, carpets, etc.
- Stuffed toys, fabric toys
Treatment
Pharmacies can provide expert advice on delousing products and treatment options for head lice. Any product should be used strictly according to the instructions in the package leaflet. After applying the treatment, the dead nits must be removed by hand and with a lice comb (there is no product available that removes the nits from the hair).
Course of treatment
- Buy or order a suitable product from a pharmacy
- Treat all members of the family
- After applying the treatment, remove dead lice and nits by hand and with a lice comb
- Repeat the treatment after 8–10 days
